This systematic review and meta-analysis shows that an exercise program without hypocaloric diet has the potential to reduce visceral adipose tissue. There seem to be gender differences in decrease of visceral adipose tissue by exercise which could be related to obesity phenotype. Combining aerobic training with strength training does not result in a higher decrease of visceral adipose tissue. The intensity of a training program should be at least moderate to vigorous.
