The legendary Masakatsu Funaki, current matchmaker for Pancrase, admitted in an interview with ATHRA magazine that he used steroids to gain muscle. Funaki said that he started using steroids when he was a young kid surrounded by British wrestlers who all abused steroids as well. Funaki claimed that he would buy steroids 5,000-yen ($40) per dosage and that he would inject himself with one CC twice a week. Funaki said that instead of having to train for 6 months to get to a certain strength level, he could achieve the same level of strength in only 2-3 weeks. Funaki said that he, along with other Japanese wrestlers during the UWF days would suffer from severe cases of eczema (inflammed skin with lesions, pimples, or sores). Funaki said that the reason he was coming out publicly about his steroid usage is that he didn't want to become the next Superstar Billy Graham (he specifically mentioned Graham by name) and that he didn't want to see the current crop of pro-wrestlers who might be using steroids to end up in the same physical shape that Graham is currently in. The interview that Funaki did with ATHRA magazine is currently on news-stands in Japan
