Grappling Unlimited Trains Navy SEALs
Grappling Unlimited's Egan Inoue was recently chosen by Navy officials at Ford Island to provide hand-to-hand combat training to the Seal Delivery Vehicle (SDV) Team One stationed at Ford Island in Honolulu, HI.
The Navy's Sea, Air and Land (SEAL) are one of the world's most respected special operations team, so who better to train these warriors in hand-to-hand combat than the highly respected Grappling Unlimited?
Those assigned to SDV Team One have already completed training in SCUBA diving, open and closed circuit combat diving, land navigation, small-unit tactics, rappelling, military land and underwater explosives, and weapons.
According to Inoue, "Hand-to-hand combat is kind of a last resort for these guys. If it comes down to fighting, something went wrong somewhere. But, if the situation arises, they have to know how to handle themselves."
"We just started training with these guys a few weeks ago, so we're really focusing on submissions right now. We'll start working on striking later. I want them to get a good submissions foundation, because once we start the striking, it's easy to forget about the submissions unless they've been drilled into your head."
The Grappling Unlimited crew takes it to the SEALs in 2-hour sessions twice per week. "These guys are amazing!", says Inoue. "They catch on so quickly. It's like you show them a submission and they immediately try to catch you with it when we start rolling. They are definitely some tough dudes!"
