UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo knows that he likely cannot remain at 145 pounds for the rest of his future. Aldo, who will face Frankie Edgar at UFC 156: Aldo Vs. Edgar in February, told a group of reporters recently that he sees the lightweight division in his future.
"I've considered going to lightweight," Aldo said (thanks for MMAFighting.com for providing the quotes). "As soon as my trainer decides that I can go up, then I will. This fight with Edgar will be a turning point. If I can win (against) him well, then I can prove that I can go (to 155 pounds)."
Edgar is a former UFC lightweight champion who made the decision to drop down to featherweight after a pair of losses to Benson Henderson for the title earlier this year. "The Answer" could provide the final check-mark needed by Aldo before switching classes.
"He has a very strong reputation thanks to destroying several opponents," Aldo said. "That's the motivation for me to face him, and that will be probably my last biggest challenge (at featherweight)."
