According to one of Japan’s leading sports papers, K-1 has been trying to lure the great Rickson Gracie out of retirement to face boxing’s former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. Of course, nothing has been set in stone and it’s doubtful the fight will ever take place, but the rumor mill continues to churn out this “news."
As every MMA and jiu-jitsu junkie know by now, Rickson is the living legend from Brazil, the immortal fighting machine with somewhere around four hundred-plus victories without a loss. Funny how all of a sudden the talks of Tyson vs. Bob Sapp have slowly curtailed and now that K-1 supposedly is trying to ink Tyson against Rickson makes little sense.
Though it would certainly be one of the (if not the) richest prize fights in Japanese history, I’ll believe it when I see it, just like Sapp/Tyson. Sorry, but rumors of this magnitude are a fight addict’s wet dream and even though both Tyson and Rickson are, um, 97 years old, the fight probably won’t happen. I’ve been proven wrong before, of course, but don’t believe the hype! Show me the signed contract and then I’ll let my fingers run rampant on the keyboard!
