Duane Ludwig vs Genki Sudo

After John Secada led off the pay-per-view portion of the card with an emphatic rendition of the Star Spangled Banner Duane "Bang" Ludwig made his way to the octagon for the first time to face Japanese star Genki Sudo. Sudo made his way to the ring dressed as a geisha as he sauntered down the ramp. Genki came out did his thing as he played around with Bang and when it became apparent Ludwig would not engage him he immediately took him to the mat. Ludwig got his guard but Sudo stood up and delivered a few shots to his face. Sudo then got the mount and then went for an armbar but Ludwig defended well and made it back to his feet. From the clinch, "Bang" threw some knees and Sudo tried to pull guard but Ludwig would have none of it and proceeded to drop a few hands of his own on the prone Sudo.

Sudo started the second the same as the first, with his karate antics and got caught with a nice right from Ludwig for it. Sudo then tried to shoot but was stuffed initially but did end up pulling guard. After little action on the ground, referee John McCarthy stood them up. Bang looked to be getting comfortable as he started to find his groove as he started to land at will. Sudo did land a takedown near the end of the round but was unable to do anything with it as time expired.

Sudo landed a nice sidekick to start off the third and then proceeded to take Ludwig back to the mat. Sudo started a ruthless ground and pound assault that left Ludwig cut . After a stoppage for the doctor to check the cut Ludwig finished with a flurry that left Sudo with no answers as he pounded him right up until the final bell. After three of the most exciting rounds in UFC history, Duane "Bang" Ludwig walks away with a unanimous decision that instantly catapults him into the top five in the lightweight division. It also put his win over Jens Pulver into perspective as he showed it was not a fluke.
