As the decision for Vargas-Castillejo was announced, a fight broke out in the crowd, and for reasons unknown for now, about ten members of Vargas' camp felt compelled to hurdle 12 or so rows of seats to get into the lower balcony and turn what had been a two or three person fracas into an all out brawl. From HBO's televised perspective, it almost seemed as if the Vargas camp was trying to contain the fight, but in fact they were throwing more punches that Vargas and Castillejo did all night.

After several members of the audience were severely beaten and quite bloodied, and at least one or more chairs were thrown in the brawl that had by now gone on for several minutes, the police officers arrived and attempted to separate the brawlers. In all, seven people were arrested including a few from Vargas' posse and a few more were transported to area hospitals. As the police rushed back out of the building due to reports that the brawl had continued to the parking lot, hundreds of angered, intoxicated and completely wound up fight fans rushed out after the police to join in on the riot.
