Shields is a great BJJ guy, I'll give him that. In ADCC, he'd probably beat GSP. This isn't ADCC.

Seriously, Shields MMA BJJ is so overrated, it's laughable. Look at this record, and look at the guys he's submitted. Who? Some cans that aren't even top 20 in the world in the WW division, some guys that have 0 grappling (hello Paul Daley) that he still had trouble putting away? He had the mount on Daley for almost 2 full rounds, and still had troubles sinking in that armbar.

He couldn't even put Martin Kampmann away with his 'superior' grappling, despite having Kampmann in bad situations on numerous occasions, or a gassed out Dan Henderson, despite mounting him over and over.

Yet he's going to submit the best WW on the planet? A guy who has been subbed once in his career, 6+ years ago? GSP won't gas like Henderson, and his ground game is light years ahead of Kampmann.

GTFO Jake Shields.

Robbie Lawler 6 Losses, 4 by submission
Paul Daley 9 Losses, 5 by submission
Nick Thompson 13 Losses, 7 by submission
Mike Pyle 7 Losses, 4 by submission
Ray Steinbeiss 7 Losses, 5 by submission

The only guy Shields has submitted in the last 6+ years, that has more losses by KO/TKO/Decision than he does by submission, is Ido Pariente. Ido who? Some can with a 9-5 record. Impressive. Does anyone seriously think that any of those guys hold a candle to GSP?
