The 4th Annual Arnold’s Strongest Man Contest boasts the most brawn ever, and has added a sixth event this year. The ArnoldStrongest Man Competition has become partners with the International Federation of Strength Athletes, the governing body of the sport worldwide, and will be televised in a two-hour format on Fox Sports across the country.
Competitors in the Arnold’s Strongest Man Contest will vie for a total of over $150,000 in cash and prizes including a new Hummer H3, for a $10,000 bronze statue of legendary strongman Louis Cyr, and over $3,000 in MHP sports nutrition supplements. The events in this year’s Arnold Strongest Man contest include:
Apollon’s Wheel -This unique barbell was made famous by turn-of-the-century strongman Louis “Apollon" Uni. The barbell resembles two train wheels welded (weights do not rotate) to a thick bar (1.92 inches in diameter) for a total weight of 366 lbs. Only ten men have ever lifted it overhead. This event takes place Friday from 3pm-4pm on the EXPO main stage.
Hummer Deadlift - Contestants will lift a specially designed 14 foot long bar weighted with Hummer tires. A new Hummer tire weighs approx. 100 lbs, and the beginning weight will be approx. 700 lbs. This event takes place Friday from 4pm-5pm on the EXPO main stage.
Medicine Ball Throw - Contestants will toss a 50 lb. medicine ball into the air in an attempt to achieve the greatest height. This event takes place Friday from 5pm-6pm on the EXPO main stage.
One Handed Overhead Dumbbell Lift (new event) - Contestants will lift a replica of the “Inch" dumbbell, which was made for Thomas Inch, a professional Strongman from the early 20th century. The dumbbell weights 172 lbs. and has a very big handle, 2.5 inches in diameter. The men will use one hand at a time and lift the dumbbell overhead as many times as possible in 90 sec. This event takes place Saturday from Noon-1pm on the EXPO main stage.
Hammer of Strength - Contestants will attempt to upend a giant Hammer 18 ft. long. Weight will be added after each completed attempt and time will be a factor determining the winner. This event takes place Saturday from 1pm-2pm on the EXPO main stage.
Farmers Walk - In this event, contestants lift 865 lbs. of barn timbers bolted together around them. They have 30 sec. to carry the 865 lbs load up a 32 ft. inclined ramp. This is the final event of the competition held Saturday night at Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium.
