I want to correct the things that have been questioned about my Gracie Name. My last name is not Gracie. It is Simőes, but I have many relatives in the Gracie family. My mother is Renzo, Ryan and Ralph's mother's sister. My teacher, "the Best", Carlinhos Gracie Jr.'s mother is my Grandmother's cousin and I grew up in the Gracie Family. Renzo, Ralph, Ryan and all of my brothers used to live together all of our lives until Ralph and Renzo came to the USA.
I used to use the name Daniel Gracie until my 3rd Brazilian Championship, after that I decided to use Simőes because I have the same name as my Grandfather and I wanted to show the other part of my family, that both families together make alot of good fighters and warriors!
About my Records, I want to correct a few things. I am a 5x Brazilian Champion (94, 95, 96, 98 and 2000). I am a 2x Mundial Champion (96 and 98), Silver Medalist in the Mundials (97, 2000, 2001). In 1998, I give Roleta the title and I took the Medal. We were both from the same Academy and both shared the Championship. In 1997, I lost to Fabio Gurgel (2pts) taking the Silver. In 2000, I lost to Saulo Ribiero (2pts) and took Silver there as well. I was fighting against Saulo 20 days after Knee Surgery and had won many matches before we met in the finals. In 2001, I to Fernando Boi. In regards to this fight I had trained one week before the Mundials. I had decided to fight at the last minute before the Mundials and ended up getting Cramps in the Finals and it killed me. I had won many matches before meeting Boi in the Finals but physically was exhausted.
There was a competition in Brazil called the Jiu-Jitsu Oscars and I won against Roberto Traven. This championship was where they took the best Jiu-Jitsu of the World. I won tickets to go to fight in the Pan-Americans and I won the Pan-Americans in 1999.
So, I think that I am able and deserving of the right to fight in Pride or any NHB/
Vale Tudo Events! There are alot of fighters that are on the cards that don't have half of what I have accomplished in my career.
And don't worry about the Gracie name because if the Family doesn't have a problem with me being Daniel Gracie why do you guys worry about it? Wish me luck and expect a good fight and a truly strong Gracie coming to Pride.
I just wanted to clarify a few things.
Daniel Gracie Simőes
