MMAUniverse.com has just received official confirmation that Alistair Overeem will be stepping in to fight Mark Hunt at Mondays Dream 5: Lightweight Grand Prix 2008 Final.
Mark Hunt was originally rumoured to be fighting Jerome Le Banner, but Le Banner had to withdraw due to injury after a recent fight. There was then a lot of speculation about who Dream would pull in to replace Le Banner, and now we are able to quash all rumours and confirm that it will be none other than Holland's own Alistair "Demolition Man" Overeem.
Mark Hunt comes from a strong K-1 background, and turned his hand to MMA in 2004 and wowed audiences the world over when be beat the man that many thought was unbeatable - Wanderlei Silva, who had not been defeated in EIGHTEEN consecutive fights!
Mark then went on and defeated Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic in his very next fight! This particular win is important to note because at the last Dream event, Alistair Overeem, after his victory, took the microphone and publicly challenged Cro Cop, who he stated had been ducking him for long time. So Alistair will be facing a fighter who has defeated the man he most wants to fight!
This will be Alistair's second appearance at Dream, and his current record stands at 24-8-0 with notable wins over Paul Buentello, Vitor Belfort, Sergei Kharitonov and Igor Vovchanchyn.
Alistair is said to be in good spirits and very confident about the fight, despite being called in as a late addition to the card. One thing is for sure - when these two clash on Monday sparks will fly!!!
